Maker Spaces for Children
Our team is working on designing Maker Spaces for school children. We believe that providing these spaces to explore their imaginations, art, and engineering is important not only because it creates more interest in STEM fields but also because it helps them learn in their other classes.
Our Community Partner:
We have worked with Cold Springs Academy in New Haven Conneticut. The have a wonderful Makerspace and curiculum that links the in the classroom experience to their engineering center.
Our goal is to create a movable and adjustable makerspace box/center that can be implemented in any school. This will then be used in local New Haven schools that do not have the resources to provide the same type of engineering center as Cold Springs.
Specifics of the Goal:
We would like to provide both a physical solution as well as a curriculum as our solution. In combination these could provide an educational and fun experience for children across the country not just in New Haven.
Our Current Solutions/Ideas:
We have made inroads at a local school that would like to work with Cold Springs to develop a shared afterschool program. This will create an immediate solution for the children of New Haven, while we continue to develop the boxes/transportable curiculum that could be used throughout the country.
